I want to be Marlon Brando

Todays post I have decided to write about my absolute fascination with Marlon Brando.

Just take a second and imagine if you could live in the 50's when his movie career was launched and he was an instant rebellious heartthrob, my 3 favourite Brando films are The Wild One, A Streetcar Named Desire, and On The Waterfront.

You only need to watch the trailer for The Wild One (please watch it all if you can as its awesome) to see how much of an effect this dude was going to have on movies from this point on. As for his look, this sparked a rebellious look not seen before in hollywood, the white hat, leather jacket, big sideburns, jeans. It paved the way for people like James Dean to make a mark on hollywood in his own right.

A Streetcar Named Desire is an absolute classic film, if you haven't seen it then I am sorry but you are missing out! Brando starred in the play version in 1947 and then the film version later in 1951. If you have seen it you will understand what I mean when I say that when this movie finishes you have to take a moment to think about it, Brando does such an amazing performance for such a stong character that it leaves you gobsmacked, obviously there are certain scenes namely the 'Stella' performance that makes his character stand out amongst the crowd and it probably helped that he was in a love triangle of Blanche DuBois (Love her) and Stella Kowalski.

Last but not least On The Waterfront, this movie is freaking amazing, as are the other two, it has the famous 'I coulda been a contender' scene, won 8 academy awards in 1954 and was directed by Elia Kazan, who also directed Streetcar (coincidence to it being an awesome film, i'm going to say yes).

Marlon Brando was just such an amazing actor to even have Jack Nicholson quote "When Marlon dies, everybody moves up one" you only need to see a snippet of his films to agree with that, but watching documentaries and reading books on his life only help show what a life he had. Lets not talk about his middle age films as he isn't as pretty.

I want to be Marlon Brando.
